Presenting 7 Steps to Biblical Unity

What is Biblical unity? It is the “one Lord, one faith, one baptism” spoke of in Ephesians 4:5. Biblical unity is Christ centered unity. It is not “universalism.” There are NOT many paths to God. In fact, there is only ONE path to God. Jesus said, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.” (John 14:6)

I am available to teach this 7 part study in any church that is willing to grow closer together and closer to Christ. The study can be done in 7 separate sessions or as a one or two day seminar. The goal of the study is to develop awareness within the local church for the Biblical mandate to be unified within the body of Christ and to recognize that the body of Christ includes all those who have a relationship with Jesus regardless of church affiliation or denominational identity. The presentation is designed for small group discussion but can be adapted to any size group. I would recommend that church leadership be strongly encouraged to participate in this study. The 7 Steps are as follows:

  1. Love – The unconditional love of God is the foundation for all that we do as Christians. We are commanded to love God, love people and share Jesus with each other and the world.
  2. Honor – Far too often we neglect to put love into action, even in our relationships with each other in the church. Once we realize the necessity of loving one another, that love will manifest itself and we will practice honoring one another.
  3. Forgiveness – Unforgiveness is the greatest hindrance to the unity of the Body. We will discuss what forgiveness is and what forgiveness is not. Everyone will be encouraged to examine themselves for any sign of unforgiveness and seek God’s help to choose to forgive and remove that obstacle to unity.
  4. Acceptance – Once we come to forgiveness, then we can move to acceptance of others as members of the Body of Christ. Everyone has the need to give and receive acceptance for the Body of Christ to move forward together.
  5. Biblical Instruction – We are commanded to instruct one another in the Word of God. We will explore how to appropriately instruct one another and encourage one another to grow into Christian maturity.
  6. Handling Conflict – It’s not a matter of if there will be conflict - but when there will be conflict. We will look at our Lord’s specific instructions on how to handle conflict. This is where the rubber meets the road in relating to one another.
  7. Fellowship – Finally, we will look at the early Church to determine exactly what should be our top priorities in the Body of Christ.
